The problem with recipe apps

Open almost any cooking app and you get an infinite feed. Beautiful photos, ingredients you do not own, and a shopping trip standing between you and dinner. Meanwhile there is half a bag of mushrooms in your fridge quietly going bad.

We wanted the opposite: an app that starts from your actual kitchen and works forward. What do you have? What can that become? What is the one thing you would need to buy to make it better?

Deterministic first, AI second

It would have been easier to wire everything to a language model and call it a day. We did not, because a cooking assistant that hallucinates quantities is worse than no assistant at all.

So Rendelog scores your pantry against a curated recipe library with plain, auditable logic. The AI is layered on top for the genuinely open-ended problems — writing something new around odd ingredients, proposing a substitution, rescuing a dish. And every AI change is shown as a difference you approve before it lands.

From Modoza to Rendelog

The app shipped its first builds under the name Modoza. As the product found its shape, the name stopped fitting — so in August 2026 it became Rendelog, with a new icon built around a grater: the most ordinary object in a kitchen, doing the most useful work.

A few technical identifiers still carry the old name. The Android package is com.modoza.app, this website lives on modoza.app, and some internal storage keys are unchanged. That is deliberate. Renaming an Android package on Google Play means shipping a brand-new listing and abandoning every existing install, rating and review; rewriting local storage keys would delete the pantry data of everyone already using the app. Neither cost was worth paying for cosmetic consistency.

If you installed Modoza, you already have Rendelog — it arrived as a normal update.

Who makes it

Rendelog is developed and published by Saturn Software, an independent studio. It is a small operation, which means feedback reaches the person who writes the code — usually within a day or two.

If something is broken, confusing, or missing, tell us. That is genuinely how the roadmap gets set.
